The Malcolm Group is a privately owned and highly successful business employing circa 2000 people across Scotland and England. Malcolm Logistics is our largest division and provides supply chain management, storage, distribution and related services to a number of major customers via numerous strategically located intermodal centres, and is the operator of major rail freight terminals, 450 trucks and over 5 million square feet of warehousing throughout the UK. The Company provides integrated third party logistics solutions including bonded and non-bonded warehousing and supply chain management to a number of blue chip customers across Scotland and England. 

We are seeking to strengthen our Logistics Systems Support team by appointing a recently graduated System Applications Analyst. Reporting to the IT Project Manager, this role will be based at our Logistics Head Office in Newhouse, North Lanarkshire. 

Main areas of responsibility will include: 

  • Identifying and documenting logistics systems process improvements
  • Liaising with end-users and management to gather requirements
  • Developing and Testing new features and processes in Logistics Systems
  • Developing and maintaining UNIX shell scripts used to support operational processes
  • Developing integration processes between internal and external systems
  • Producing reports from Logistics Systems for customers and end-users
  • Migrating solutions from Test environment to Production environment
  • Documenting system changes, adhering to company standards
  • Providing 2nd line Support for Logistics Systems
  • Providing system training
  • Supporting system users during implementation of new processes 

Essential criteria and specifications for the role: 

  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) achieved at level 2:1 or above in a Technical subject
  • Have graduated within the last 12 months
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Aptitude for systems problem-solving 

Desirable criteria and specifications for the role: 

  • Systems Analysis Experience
  • Knowledge of Logistics Systems
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles and practices
  • Understanding of databases (ideally Oracle)
  • SQL and/or PL/SQL expertise
  • Oracle APEX experience
  • Knowledge of report writing tools e.g. iReports, Jaspersoft Studio
  • Knowledge of Unix/Linux including experience of Shell scripting
  • Experience of systems integration and/or EDI processes
  • Competence with MS Excel, especially the design of data input/output sheets, including use of macros and VBA 

Please note that whilst the role will be based in Newhouse, North Lanarkshire, travel to other Company and customer sites in the UK will be required in accordance with business needs. This is likely to increase with career development.
