Throughout the last decades, disposal to landfill has been seen as a quick and simple method of site remediation. However, whilst 'dig and dump' was previously a cheap option, the lack of suitable landfill voids together with the removal of the Landfill Tax exemption for contaminated land has substantially increased disposal costs. With Landfill Tax increasing at £8/tonne/annum, these costs are set to escalate year on year. Through its in-house expertise Malcolm Construction can assist in the selection and treatment or reduction in volume for disposal of the contaminated soils, to minimise the financial burden on construction projects. We can provide both on-site treatment techniques and, where construction programmes’ do not allow on site treatment, we can offer integrated waste handling and remediation at one of our soil treatment centres, minimising the Landfill Tax burden.
