Malcolm Construction is a major operating division of the Malcolm Group and is one of the largest civils contractors in the country, also operating the largest tipper and skip hire fleet in Scotland and is a recognised leader in landfill, waste management and recycling.

We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to support the division. The development and broadening of the current post-holder’s role within the business of the division means that we both have a great opportunity for a new member of the team to join in this key function whilst he/she will also get benefit of their predecessor’s experience and guidance. Reporting to the Group Human Resources Manager, you will be based at our Construction head office on South Street in Glasgow, and will be a key source of support to operational colleagues in this crucial area across a variety of teams and sites throughout Central Scotland.

Our approach is to devolve responsibility to line management, so your role will be to support line and depot management with their handling of issues across the range of HR related activities, with a particular emphasis on absence and performance management, the application of policies and procedures, recruitment and employment terms and conditions, discipline, management information and administration. Your primary means of contact will be by telephone and email with a range of colleagues at various locations, so clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritise and make effective progress across a diverse and changing ‘to-do’ list are essential capabilities. You should also demonstrate the necessary enthusiastic and proactive approach needed to regularly visit our sites and to establish positive relationships with colleagues, providing the sort of face-to-face support and coaching to line managers required to improve their own knowledge, skills and competence.

It is essential that you have experience within an industrial context, ideally construction, to include the delivery of HR advice and support to line management and you will demonstrate a familiarity with relevant HR issues, together with the ability to apply that knowledge to achieve practical and effective solutions. Ideally you should be CIPD qualified or working towards a relevant qualification and will display the interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain credibility among colleagues, whilst being comfortable working on your own initiative.

You will be based at our divisional HQ on South Street, Glasgow, but you will travel to other sites in Central Scotland so a driving licence is essential and a reasonably flexible approach to working hours will be needed. Using your experience you will be familiar with our key challenges and will be comfortable with providing practical and effective advice and support across a range of issues in a construction industry context. You will demonstrate a positive approach to building constructive relationships and will work collaboratively with others to see plans through to fruition.

This is a great opportunity to join a major Company in a role with the potential for you to make a real difference, with both individual input and the support of an operations and HR team.

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
