Intermodal Operations
Malcolm Rail has operated Rail Terminals at Grangemouth and Linwood (Elderslie) for some years. At Grangemouth and Linwood, we offer full intermodal services, i.e. linking Road, Rail and Warehousing operations.
In June 2008 Malcolm Rail became the new Terminal Operator of the Daventry International Railfreight Terminal - DIRFT. Malcolm Rail partners with ProLogis who have invested jointly in the DIRFT rail operation.
DIRFT currently handles 120 train services per week, for major train operating companies (TOCs) such as Freightliner, DB Schenker and Direct Rail Services (DRS). Current container lifting volumes are around 100,000 units per annum, handled by 3 reachstackers and an empty container lifter. These volumes are anticipated to grow by up to 30% over the next few years.
Among the end-users serviced by DIRFT and our other terminal operations are major shipping lines (OOCL, NYK, K&N, Evergreen), key retailers such as ASDA, Tesco and Mothercare, multinational corporations such as Diageo and UPM Kymmene and logistics specialists such as Eddie Stobart, DHL and John G Russell.
Our integrated Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) handles all Rail Terminal and Container activities throughout the UK. In addition to greatly enhancing our operational systems, the CTMS will provide visibility of containers within our control to our customers as well as common data interfaces with all Shipping Lines.
